Project Two (2)
We created Print Statement Designs to address the overwhelming information architecture and cognitive overload that we observed with current printed medical statements.
Current (on the market) medical bills are:
Confusing to read/understand - users have to perform mental gymnastics to align, add, subtract and reach their total due
Insurance contribution is not easily accessible
Modes of payment are not clearly accessible
Problem Statement
Service Providers needed to simplify their bill designs so that they can Increase the likely hood of payment for medical services rendered.
Nearly One in ten adults in the U.S owe at least $250 in medical debt.
Goals
Clearly highlight the medical group/facility, the date of service, name of patient and account number for ease of use and discoverability.
Simplify Bill designs and reduce mental fatigue by calling out exactly the services rendered, Insurance contributions and patient obligations
Call out the total amount due by the patient along with the due date
Highlight modes of payment for services rendered
Design Process
We started off this design process by first analyzing existing medical bills and sketching out ways to simplify the bill by only keeping elements of the bill that we educatedly assumed to increase payment.
In addition, initial discovery research uncovered that users value these key items on their bills
Amount
Date of Service
Due Date
Who the bill is for
Whom the bill is from
Account Number
Ways to Pay
We then created these key themes based on what we heard and analyzed from the initial discovery research. These 4 key themes served as the corner stone for our 6 final designs.
Clear/Understandable
Straightforward
Trustworthy
Simple/Clean
We conducted six rounds of design and research; iterating on designs based on the feedback we gathered through out the rounds of research.
If consumer-patients value clarity, consistency and organization of their bills, how would the proposed designs perform compared to Express Bill?
